Flight of the Conchords

By Chris Walbert

There are only a few shows that are so funny that they will make me laugh out loud, even when watching them alone. There are even fewer that are worth talking about with your friends or quoting when you’re out. Flight of the Conchords is one of these shows.

This new show from HBO is about 2 guys from New Zealand, Bret and Jermaine, who come to New York to get their band famous. The show follows the sometimes inane details of their daily lives while they try to find gigs to play and women to love. Most of the funniest moments come in their normal conversations or their reactions to day to day life. Or, in their band meetings with their manager Murray or when they’re being stalked by their only fan, Mel.

Wait, how could I go any further without talking about the music? At least 2-3 times per episode, the guys break into song. It can be anything from soul music, to funk, to hip hop, to love songs. All of the songs are surprisingly well done and hilarious. None more so than “Leggy Blonde”.

So, if you haven’t seen this show yet, please watch it. This one is up there with my current favorite comedies like The Office (new season starts September 27) and Rob & Big.

In other news:

It’s been 60 degrees and rainy for the past 4 days. What is going on? August in Baltimore is supposed to be 90 degrees with 80% humidity. Not that I’m complaining, but this weather is kind of depressing.

Conchords is cooler than sliced bread but not quite as cool as electricity…cause you wouldnt have it with out electricity right? I mean its kind of a sub category or product maybe. Like without electricity there wouldnt be tv and if there wasnt tv people wouldnt make funny shows…or if they did, there wouldnt be a way to record them. At least not as well as they are…I have to go.
